Acne and Medical Dermatology

Dermatologists continue to use several topical and oral strategies to treat acne. The doctor needs to see how extreme the acne is before administering any advice. For extreme acne situations, a mixture of antibiotics and topical lotions might be used. There are other oral medicines, such as Accutane, that permanently stop cystic acne in many patients. Most doctors begin with a simple acne treatment program and slowly alter it as the skin responds. Every patient is different so any treatments must always be customized.
